While speaking to the National Assembly Health Committee, Kitur explained how the two men were tricked into giving up their kidneys with the promise of huge payments. They were first asked to surrender their national ID cards, which were then replaced with foreign-looking ID cards. These fake documents were allegedly used to change their medical details at the hospital. One of the victims had been promised Ksh1.2 million for donating his kidney. But in the end, he only got Ksh50,000 before the surgery and Ksh400,000 after—totalling Ksh450,000. The rest of the money was never paid.
