Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna clashed with Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei during a tense Senate Public Accounts Committee meeting on Friday, 13 June 2025.

The heated exchange erupted after Cherargei praised Farouk Kibet, President William Ruto’s Personal Assistant, prompting Sifuna to respond sharply.

The confrontation began when Sifuna made a comment involving Farouk while questioning Bungoma Governor Kenneth Lusaka.

In defence, Cherargei insisted Farouk Kibet is a key figure in government, telling Sifuna,

“Farouk is not just any Kenyan; he’s the President’s PA. You may not know State House, but now you do.”

However, Sifuna dismissed the praise, firmly stating that Farouk holds no constitutional position in Kenya.

“I only recognise individuals with constitutional offices. The role of presidential assistant does not exist in Kenyan law,” he said.

Sifuna went further, referring to a previous criticism by CS Kipchumba Murkomen, who once questioned Cherargei’s legal knowledge.

“I had defended him when Murkomen doubted his legal understanding. But now he’s glorifying someone who holds no legal authority,” Sifuna added.

Farouk Kibet is known for his close relationship with President Ruto and is believed to wield major influence at State House.

Despite not holding any official government post, he is often seen as a powerful behind-the-scenes figure.

The fiery exchange between the two senators caught the attention of many Kenyans online, with some joking that Sifuna’s blunt remarks could cause a heart attack.

This dramatic Senate moment highlights the growing debate around the role of unofficial power brokers in government—and Sifuna’s bold stand is already trending on social media platforms across Kenya.
