IPOA Accused of Ignoring Justice for Albert Ojwang—MP Salasya Demands Accountability

Mumias East MP Peter Salasya has called for the immediate disbandment of the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA), accusing it of failing to deliver justice in the case of the late teacher and X influencer, Albert Ojwang Omondi.

In a statement shared on his official X account on Saturday, 14 June 2025, Salasya criticised IPOA for allegedly mishandling investigations into the controversial death of Ojwang, who died after being arrested by police officers in Homa Bay.

The MP accused IPOA of “playing games” and ignoring its mandate to hold rogue officers accountable.

Salasya expressed shock that IPOA has not yet produced the officers who arrested Ojwang. He pointed out that while Kenyans already know about senior figures like OCS Talam and PC Mukhwana, the identities of those who physically carried out the arrest remain hidden.

“I want to see the exact faces of the officers who arrested Albert. Why has IPOA failed to present them in court to record statements or appear as witnesses?” Salasya asked.

He also directed blame at DCI boss Mohamed Amin, saying that if Amin cannot ensure the officers appear in court, he should step aside and face investigation himself.

The vocal MP further urged Kenyans to remain alert and not allow the matter to be swept under the rug. He warned that silence in such cases could normalise police brutality.

“We must speak up. Every life matters—even that of a street child,” Salasya said firmly.

Albert Ojwang’s mysterious death in police custody has caused public outrage, and now Salasya’s bold demands have increased pressure on IPOA to act.
