Fierce Exchange as Gaucho Takes Aim at Sifuna, Challenges His Place in ODM

Tensions within ODM escalated sharply when Raila Odinga loyalist Gaucho publicly fired at Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, daring him to quit the party following a fiery interview. Sifuna’s critical remarks on the Ruto administration and his refusal to fully back the broad-based government have unsettled party loyalists.

In the interview, Sifuna condemned fellow ODM legislators working with President Ruto, claiming their influence was waning. Gaucho responded with a video message, asserting that Sifuna’s power is solely because of ODM leader Raila Odinga’s backing. “There is no where you’ll go without Raila Odinga. Only Raila has the people,” Gaucho said, challenging the senator to leave if he no longer supports the party’s direction.

Gaucho further called on the Luo community to maintain their support for the Ruto government, urging calm against continued demonstrations. He insisted that Raila remains the true leader who will guide the party’s next moves. “If you’re tired with ODM, leave; you do not have the influence to direct us,” he added.

The verbal showdown comes amid increasing unrest within ODM as some members question the party’s alliance with the government ahead of the 2027 elections. Sifuna has yet to publicly respond to Gaucho’s challenge, but insiders say the exchange has deepened divisions in the party’s leadership.
