Activist Boniface Mwangi Fires a Stark Warning to President Ruto Amid Rising Unrest

Just minutes after his release, activist Boniface Mwangi dropped a bold statement challenging President William Ruto’s claims that protests against his government are fueled by financial incentives. Mwangi insisted that the widespread anger among Kenyans is real and unpaid.

“The president thinks that the hate towards his government is manufactured and that people are being paid. But Kenyans hate President Ruto for free. The anger is very genuine,” Mwangi declared. He warned that the government’s strategy of arresting protesters is only radicalising more citizens, saying, “Every time you arrest one person, 100 more are radicalized.”

Mwangi went further to predict that the remaining two years of Ruto’s presidency will fail to restore his popularity. “Focus on the remaining two years of your term and then go. There is nothing in this world that is going to save his presidency — he is a one-term president,” he stated.

His remarks come amid growing demonstrations fueled by frustrations over high taxes, unemployment, and perceived arrogance within the administration. Across the country, protests have increased despite heavy police crackdowns.

The government has repeatedly denied accusations of suppressing dissent unlawfully, maintaining that arrests are necessary to uphold law and order. No official statement has yet responded directly to Mwangi’s recent comments.

As Kenya braces for the next elections, the tensions between government forces and activists like Mwangi are unlikely to ease. The question remains: can President Ruto reverse the tide of public discontent, or is the country headed toward deeper unrest? The coming months will be critical in determining the political landscape.
