Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale has directed all national referral hospitals and the Social Health Authority (SHA) to form official partnerships with leading cancer treatment centres in Kenya.

Duale issued the directive on 3rd June 2025, urging hospitals to work together to improve cancer care across the country.

The move is aimed at enhancing access to quality treatment through resource-sharing and collaboration among key health institutions.

The directive follows the breakdown of the only Linear Accelerator (LINAC) cancer treatment machine at Kenyatta National Hospital, which left many patients stranded.

Duale encouraged hospitals to link up with Centres of Excellence such as Nairobi West Hospital, which currently houses the advanced Cyclotron 11 MeV machine used for early cancer detection and targeted therapy.

He also called on the Digital Health Authority (DHA) and private health providers to support the effort, saying combined efforts will help lower treatment costs and improve service delivery.

Duale believes Kenya has the potential to become a regional leader in cancer care and medical tourism through strong partnerships and better use of health infrastructure.
