As the nation reels from weeks of violent protests, Nominated MP Sabina Chege has issued a chilling warning about the scale of the chaos gripping the country. With a somber tone, she declared the current wave of unrest unprecedented in Kenya’s political history, urging President William Ruto to rise above the storm and safeguard the lives and property of all Kenyans.
“Across all regimes, from Moi, Kibaki to Kenyatta, we have never reached this level of anarchy,” Chege said during a press briefing, her voice laced with concern. She argued that unlike in previous administrations, today's opposition is detached from responsibility, and that shadowy political figures may be orchestrating the upheaval behind the scenes. “Being in the opposition is easy,” she added, “but someone has to take charge.”

In a rare show of sympathy for Ruto, the former Murang’a Woman Representative insisted that the president has both a right and a duty to act. “We need to call ourselves to order,” she said. “And ask, is the Anti-Terrorism Act being misused? If so, how can Parliament amend it and initiate a sober discussion?”
The remarks come at a time when Parliament is deeply divided over the controversial invocation of terrorism laws against protesters. Last week, civil rights groups criticised the government’s heavy-handed tactics, while Interior officials maintained the measures were necessary to prevent national disintegration.
Despite Chege’s call for calm and legal review, she stopped short of naming those she suspects of fuelling the protests. Her statements leave open questions that demand answers—who are these ‘unknown politicians’? And what exactly is their endgame? As Kenyans brace for more protests, the silence surrounding these allegations grows louder.
