Tensions within the ruling United Democratic Alliance have reached boiling point, with a dramatic digital expulsion revealing cracks at the party’s core. Senator Boni Khalwale has reportedly been kicked out of UDA’s internal WhatsApp group for repeatedly attacking President William Ruto’s administration.
The revelation came from Senator Samson Cherargei, who did not mince words during a heated Senate exchange. He claimed Khalwale had crossed a line in his political ambitions and no longer deserved space among loyal party members. “We have even removed Khalwale from WhatsApp groups,” Cherargei declared. “He is trying a popularity contest to run for Kakamega governor, but he will not survive. I am not a small man.”
Khalwale has in recent months distanced himself from UDA, openly criticising government policies and flirting with an independent path ahead of the 2027 general elections. His attacks, perceived as undermining party unity, appear to have triggered the digital dismissal.
The fallout comes amid broader political realignments, with increasing talk of rebellion from leaders once considered Ruto allies. Khalwale, who once served as a vocal defender of UDA’s agenda, now seems poised to challenge the president’s grip on the Western Kenya vote bloc.
The party has not released an official statement on the senator’s removal, nor clarified whether the expulsion signals a deeper disciplinary process. Meanwhile, Khalwale has remained silent, fuelling speculation about his next political move.
As UDA tries to maintain control ahead of looming succession battles, the question remains—who else could be pushed out next? And will Khalwale’s exit from a WhatsApp group mark the start of a broader exodus?
