Tensions Escalate as Rigathi Gachagua Labels President Ruto “Very Confused”

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has launched a fierce attack on President William Ruto, accusing him of being “very confused” and blaming opposition leaders for youth unrest. Speaking during a campaign event for his Democratic Citizen Party in the United States, Gachagua suggested that Ruto’s leadership is plagued by serious issues that even require medical attention.

Gachagua criticized the President for shifting blame to other leaders instead of addressing the underlying problems facing Kenya’s youth. He argued that his allies remain focused on serving Kenyans and highlighted research showing that many of his allied MPs ranked among the best performers in recent assessments. The former deputy president also accused Ruto of dictatorial tendencies and questioned the President’s mental clarity.

The remarks come as political rivalry between Gachagua and Ruto deepens ahead of the 2027 elections. Gachagua’s breakaway from the Kenya Kwanza coalition has thrust him into the spotlight, challenging Ruto’s dominance. Meanwhile, the leader of the National Assembly Majority, Kimani Ichung’wah, was given 48 hours to retract comments he made against Gachagua in Parliament, escalating political tensions further.

No official response has yet been issued by State House on Gachagua’s allegations, though sources hint at possible damage control efforts behind the scenes. The bitter exchange underscores growing divisions within Kenya’s ruling elite as the election season approaches. Observers now watch closely to see if this political feud will deepen or lead to new alliances.

The question remains: how will President Ruto address these sharp rebukes amid mounting pressure? The coming weeks promise to reveal much about the future of Kenya’s leadership.
