While abroad rallying support for his Democratic Change Party, Rigathi Gachagua has turned his trip into a whirlwind of political confessions. His latest claim may shake the foundations of Nakuru’s county leadership.
Speaking in a recent video circulating online, the former Deputy President alleged that Governor Susan Kihika’s husband, Sam Mburu, has been issuing directives to the police in Nakuru despite holding no official government position. Gachagua claims he confronted the officers, who allegedly admitted that Mburu told them he oversees national government matters in the county while his wife governs at the county level.
Even more explosive, Gachagua said Mburu boasts of business dealings with President William Ruto, including joint ventures in the importation of fertilisers, sugar, rice, and KPLC meters. According to the former DP, Mburu allegedly told the police that failure to obey his commands would result in immediate transfers, implying he has control over state machinery.
The timeline of these revelations follows Gachagua’s unceremonious removal from government earlier this year, after which he began making a series of insider disclosures. While State House has remained silent, Gachagua’s remarks have sparked murmurs across political circles, especially in the Rift Valley power base.
Governor Kihika and her husband are yet to issue a formal response, though allies have dismissed the claims as bitterness from a sidelined politician. The National Police Service has not clarified the chain of command allegations in Nakuru.
With Gachagua continuing his US tour and promising more revelations, questions remain about the depth of private influence over public institutions. Is this political revenge—or a glimpse into hidden power dynamics? Kenya is watching.
