President Ruto’s Bold Promise Sparks New Wave of Doubt and Defiance

President William Ruto has once again vowed to fulfil every campaign promise he made, daring his critics to challenge his vision for Kenya’s future. But even as he speaks with conviction, cracks in public confidence are widening.

During a charged address at AIC Bomani Church in Machakos on July 20, Ruto dismissed claims that he overpromised, insisting that his Bottom-Up Economic Agenda was never about populism but about ambition. “It is not overpromising; we are raising our ambition as a nation,” he declared, stressing that mediocrity must no longer define Kenya’s destiny.

He praised the installation of Assistant Bishop Benjamin Kalanzo while using the occasion to underscore his belief in Kenya’s potential. “I must fulfil all that I promised because I believe in Kenya,” he told congregants, adding that his government will not shy away from its mission despite mounting pressure.

Yet disillusionment continues to grow. Former Roots Party deputy Justina Wamae recently dismissed Ruto’s economic blueprint as vague and unworkable. “He never explained how people would pull their weight up,” she said, accusing the regime of playing politics while Kenyans suffer.

Murang’a Senator Joe Nyutu, speaking on June 11 during Ruto’s 1,000-day milestone, alleged betrayal and abandonment of allies. “He kicked out all his supporters once he got power,” Nyutu said, citing the impeachment of ex-Deputy President Gachagua as a warning sign.

Lugari MP Nabii Nabwera gave a more balanced view but still rated Ruto’s performance as average. He argued the 2010 Constitution has curbed executive power, making some promises hard to realise.

With pressure building and political divisions deepening, observers are left wondering: will Ruto’s vision materialise—or will it become just another story of promises unkept?
