Power Struggle Intensifies as Ruto Allies Move to Sideline Deputy President Gachagua

A brewing storm within Kenya Kwanza has taken a sharper turn as close allies of President William Ruto allegedly plot to undermine Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s 2027 presidential ambitions. Sources reveal a coordinated effort to frustrate Gachagua’s political rise, sparking fears of a looming clash inside the ruling coalition.

Reports indicate that top UDA strategists have quietly convened to devise a succession plan that sidelines Gachagua in favour of a more aligned running mate. Tactics include orchestrated media attacks to damage his public image, limiting his participation in government affairs, and blocking his access to grassroots networks. Yet, Gachagua’s supporters insist they are prepared to resist any move aimed at ending his political journey prematurely.

A senior Mt. Kenya political insider warned that excluding Gachagua risks fragmenting the Kenya Kwanza vote, potentially handing the opposition a clear path to power. “They’re risking everything. This power game could break the house from within,” the source cautioned.

These developments come at a critical time, with the 2027 general election drawing nearer and political alliances being tested. While President Ruto’s camp has yet to issue an official statement, the tension is palpable as insiders call for careful management of the deputy president’s frustrations to avoid a fallout.

The question now is whether this internal feud can be resolved or if it will fracture the ruling coalition. As political manoeuvres continue behind closed doors, many Kenyans watch anxiously to see if Gachagua will survive the storm or be sidelined before the next election.
